i have heard that essential oils such as peppermint, pine and lemongrass oils are good to fend off mosquitoes. what other oil might work? and how should i use them to keep the skeeters away? in a diffuser, a spray? and does this really work? has it worked for you?
Citronella is well known as a mosquito repellent. You didn’t say if you want to keep the mosquitoes out of a certain area or merely from biting you. They sell candles with citronella to use for de-bugging an area, and citronella oil to use in oil lamps. For just you, Avon’s Skin-so-soft oil is very well known to repel mosquitoes and I can vouch for that personally, it even stopped black flies from biting me though not from hanging around and landing on me.
Lemon eucalyptus oil is supposed to work, but I haven’t tried it.

It’s not an oil, however I live in New Jersey and have many outdoor parties. I burn a few sticks of sage incense….stuck in the ground here and there….Gone! Works like a charm!
